Our Story

Our school was opened for the first time in 1959 and until 2000, it was known as the “Technological” school. In 2000, due to the high number of students studying in “Hospitality-Tourism”, the Ministry of Education approved the request of the school directorate to change the name from the “Technology” school to the “Hospitality-Tourism” school.

In the 1995-1996 school year, thanks to a collaboration between the Albanian and Austrian Governments, the “Hospitality-Tourism” course was opened for the first time in Albania, a branch which would prepare qualified employees and sectoral managers of businesses Hospitality and Tourism.

In 1996-1997, the first class was created in this direction, as it was considered that Tirana offered many chances due to the fact of being the capital city, a city with history, culture and old tradition, but also due to the many opportunities for employment of young people who would complete their studies in this direction, as well as the opportunity to evaluate the progress and success of the project.

The Austrian project, through the office for education in Tirana, KulturKontakt, Austria, made a special contribution to the concretization and implementation of the agreement. In the years 1995-2007, many activities were carried out: professional trainings with teachers and school leaders, mainly in Austria, but also in Albania, the creation of professional infrastructure for teaching practices, the design of teaching materials, the equipping of practice departments with material bases professional etc. After many years of experience in this direction, the school currently has an appropriate infrastructure and a trained teaching staff to prepare qualified employees in the field of hospitality and tourism, in addition to other consolidated profiles in the field of Food Technology. The facilities and quality of teaching, as well as the preparation of school curricula and teaching materials by the school teachers themselves, make possible a quality preparation of our students. This fact has been accompanied by an increase in the number of students seeking to study at our school, as well as the number of students employed by businesses.

Since 2000, we have been members of the Association of European Hospitality Schools, AEHT based in Luxenburg, as the only Albanian school.

Thanks to this membership since 2000, the school has regularly taken part in many activities organized by this association in different places (competitions, teacher trainings, fairs, as well as in the annual meetings of hotel school managers), where there have been presentations dignified of the Albanian team and prizes were also won.

The school is constantly presented everywhere in the activities organized in the country such as fairs, exhibitions and competitions.

In 2009-2010, with the changes in vocational education, the school now has a 2+1+1 and 2+2 year structure, which means more flexibility for the labor market and education.

The teachers of the school are the designers of many curricular materials that serve the entire system of hospitality schools in Albania and that of Food Technology.

They are certified trainers in education, authors of textbooks or teaching materials.

Our school teachers and students are part of many projects carried out in professional education as well as evaluated in these participations and presentations.

In 2019, after a complete reconstruction, the school completely changed its appearance. The number of premises for learning and professional practice was increased and the didactic material base was enriched for the development of learning in contemporary conditions.

Also, the school is located in a shared territory with the Dormitory, giving students from different districts the opportunity for housing and learning.

In the 2020-2021 school year, the Development Unit was established for the first time in the school, in support of the work of the school directorate, with clearly defined tasks. This unit has made it possible to coordinate the work with the school Directorate for quality assurance in the school.

The priority of the school over the years is cooperation with businesses, not only for the realization of professional practices of students in business, but also in other cooperations such as teaching, teacher training, assessment of students in business and in the final exams of Levels in the school. Business partners of the school are active and successful collaborators. Communicating with businesses and carrying out joint activities with them has been the main goal of the school directorate during the drafting of its development plans.

An important part of the practical learning process takes place near these businesses. This cooperation is already institutionalized and works very well. The teachers who follow the internships near the businesses, keep in contact with the company managers and transmit to the Development Unit all the information collected in a rhythmic way, to continuously improve the communication and cooperation with these businesses and also to improve the curriculum at the school level. In order to respond to the demands of the labor market, in the 2021-2022 school year, the school also offered the “Travel and Tourism Services” profile for the first time and is working to increase capacities and create connections with businesses in the field of Tourist Agencies. Currently, the school counts about 220 partner businesses.

The school also works hard in terms of promotion and marketing. In the premises of the school, all the teaching and educational activities of the school and various sports, cultural and professional activities inside and outside the country, as well as the prizes and cups won, are reflected, making its presentation to everyone: parents, businesses and communities, organizations, partners, etc.

The high rates of employment of the school’s students over the years indicate the school’s success in preparing future employees of the tourism industry. High employment figures have made it possible for business representatives to show great interest in preparing a well-educated and professionally prepared new generation.

In addition to the learning process and the realization of professional practices, the school also pays special attention to artistic and sports activities, as an important part of the education, entertainment and relaxation of our students.

The students of our school participate in projects and activities related to the environment, its preservation, and enrichment. These activities are part of their civic and professional training, based on the fact that tourism cannot be developed and quality-controlled food products can be produced without preserving and enriching the environment.
